SEO and statistics

If you don't know how many people are visiting your site, how they get there or what they do once they arrive, then you don't know how well your site is performing.

A simple analysis of your website visitor statistics, what we call 'stats', will tell you how many people are visiting your site, what keywords they are putting into Google to find you and how many pages of your site they are looking at. It's easy to get caught up with the numbers - you might hear people boast that they have 1000 'hits' a day on their site but if you don't take a look at WHAT the visitors are looking at, how long they stay and whether they do what you want (like fill in a form, or complete an order) then it's not going to help you improve your site performance.

Look at trends, not just numbers

By looking at things such as the 'bounce rate' (this is when people click away without going any further on your site - you know, when you click through from Google, look at a page quickly and then go back to Google for more options...) for the different pages on your site and the time people spend on a page you can see if people are either clicking away or finding what they need.

Likewise, with a stats analysis you can see if people are coming in through the keywords that you want them to be looking for and often you can see people arriving via keywords that you didn't think would be popular, allowing you to then optimise your content.

How do you get to these stats?

Most web servers should be able to provide you with visitor statistics - it will be an option in your hosting control panel. However, these stats are often very basic and don't paint an overall view of performance. The best way to see how your site is doing is to install Google Analytics on your site.

By setting up a stats report in Google Analytics you can track not only visits, but how people are using your site - and you can have a report emailed directly to you weekly, monthly or annually (we suggest at least monthly!).

If you don't have Google Analytics installed on your site, then Sauced Out can arrange that for you. We'll need access to the source code of your site and your hosting. We'll then set you up with a basic emailed report, or you can choose a more detailed and customised report. Prices start from $110 and you can get a quote by filling in the form below.

What is SEO?

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimisation. It involves improving the navigation, content and visibility of your website so that it can be more easily found by search engines such as Google. Often, just simple changes can make a huge difference - such as adding keyword and description tags to your pages and adjusting some of the content.

How Sauced Out can help with SEO

The first thing we look at are your current stats, or if you don't have any then we set up Google Analytics for you and do a site analysis - looking at how people are currently using your site.

We'll discuss what you want your site to be achieving and which keywords or market segments that you are trying to attract. Then we'll delve into your site structure and content and come up with a strategy to start you on your way with SEO.

If you need help implementing these changes then talk to us about our web maintenance plans and prices.

Beyond SEO to CRO - conversion rate optimisation

CRO looks at increasing the percentage of visitors that convert into customers. Conversion rate is measured in different ways : it could be getting a customer to buy, fill out a web form, subscribe to a newsletter or give you a call.

We look at creating specific landing pages for adverts or Google searches, doing tests using different versions of pages (called A/B testing) and track the results using Google Analytics.
